Call for Papers
The Division on Culture and War of the Cultural Studies Association would like to invite submissions for the 11th Annual Meeting of the Cultural Studies Association (U.S.), to be held at Columbia College Chicago, Chicago, IL May 23-26, 2013. Deadline for Abstracts (500 words) is February 7, 2013. Along with the standing, general "open call" on all aspects of culture and war with relevance to the mission of the Division, we would also like to invite papers that address more specific areas such as (1) the dead (including, but not limited to, cemeteries, images of the dead for propaganda, mourning, photography, the martyr, the cult of the dead) and (2) the war museum (including, but limited to, exhibition practice, community programs, architecture, site specificity, tourism).
If interested in participating in this Division-sponsored panel, please submit the following by February 7:
- your name, email address, department, and institutional affiliation.
- a 500-word (or less) abstract for the 20-minute paper proposed, including a paper title.
- audio-visual equipment needs (no requests for AV equipment can be honored later).

The CSA Division on Culture and War is dedicated to scholarly and activist work on the cultural aspects of war and militarism, encompassing rhetoric and language, news and mass media, fictional texts and representations, documentary film and video, new media and other cultural forms. The Division welcomes interventionist and critical work on wars past and present, as well as on the everyday militarization of society, from historical, theoretical, global and interdisciplinary perspectives.
