CFP: Division of Culture and War

The Division on Culture and War of the Cultural Studies Association would like to invite submissions for the 10th Annual Meeting of the Cultural Studies Association (U.S.), to be held at the University of California, San Diego, March 28- April 1, 2012. Deadline for Abstracts (500 words) is September 15, 2011. Along with the standing, general "open call" on all aspects of culture and war with relevance to the mission of the Division, we would also like to invite papers that address more specific areas such as (1) the dead (including, but not limited to, cemeteries, images of the dead for propaganda, mourning, etc., photography, the martyr, the cult of the dead, deserters “shot at dawn”) and (2) battlefield tourism (including, but not limited to, relics, trench art, souvenirs, the commercialization of war, battlefield tours, and/or museums).

If interested in participating in this Division-sponsored panel, please submit the following by September 15: a. your name, email address, department, and institutional affiliation. b. a 500-word (or less) abstract for the 20-minute paper proposed, including a paper title. c. audio-visual equipment needs (no requests for AV equipment can be honored later).
