2017 Author Meets Critic Sessions

2017 Call for Committee Members: Author Meets Critic Committee

Want to learn about the academic publishing industry and book marketing? Want to bring awesome authors and publishers to the 2017 CSA conference? Come join the Authors Meet Critics (AMC) planning committee.

The AMC committee programs 4-5 sessions held during the 2017 Cultural Studies Association conference at Georgetown University May 25-27, 2017. We identify authors who have recently published cutting-edge books in cultural studies, research the conversations these books have initiated or expanded, match authors with critics who have productively engaged with their books, work with academic publishers to bring those books and press editors to the conference, and chair the CSA conference sessions in which authors and critics discuss those books with a participatory audience. Unlike the panel and workshop conference sessions, these AMC sessions focus on specific books and allow authors to engage directly with the communities inspiring, taking up, and expanding on their scholarship.
The Authors Meet Critics committee is committed to signal-boosting junior scholar authors and authors from marginalized subject positions and fields. It is also committed to providing skills training for cultural studies scholars exploring altac/postac careers beyond the academy.
This is a great professional development opportunity to learn about the publishing industry and academic book marketing (especially if you’re working toward an altac/postac career), meet awesome authors and press editors, and help make the 2017 Cultural Studies Association conference fabulous.
To participate in the committee, you’ll need to be available to work on the committee tasks according to the timeline below.
